Open Evening for Great Wall of China Trek

St. Joseph’s Hospice is holding an open evening for anyone interested in taking on an international fundraising challenge.

In October 2019, the hospice will take a team of fundraisers to trek along the Great Wall of China and it is looking for participants to sign up.

A special open evening will take place at the hospice from 6pm on Wednesday 13th June for anyone who is interested and would like to find out more.

During the open evening, there will be a talk by partners Skyline and a film about the trip along with some refreshments and a chance to ask questions to the organisers.

The trip itself will take place in October 2019 over 9 days and it costs just £349 to secure a place on the trip. All participants must commit to raising a minimum sponsorship of £3,000, with half of this to cover the cost of the trip and the rest going to the hospice.

Julie McAdam, senior community fundraiser, said: “Over the next few months we will be building a team of fundraisers who would like to take part in this incredible trip and make a considerable donation to the future of the hospice at the same time.

“We will be running this trip in partnership with Skyline, a national challenge event company, so this will be a professionally run and organised trip.

“As a hospice, we want to be able to care for more people in our local communities and, by taking part in this event, you will be making a significant contribution to the future funding of the hospice.

“We are very excited about this challenge and look forward to welcoming everyone to our open evening in June.”

To confirm your attendance at the open evening, please call 0151 932 6044 or email events@jospice.org.uk.

Great Wall of China facts:

The Great Wall of China is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is the longest structure ever built on earth at almost 4,000 miles long. But, rather than being one long continuous wall, it is actually made up of a number of different sections. If you measure all the different sections, its length is actually more like 13,000 miles, equal to half the length of the equator!

The wall is 2,700 years old and was originally built as a huge military line of defence. The different sections were built by various dynasties over a long period of time from stone and other materials.

Today, the Great Wall of China is a unique world heritage site and a symbol of China which attracts over 50 million visitors every year.
