GDPR 2020 - Statement for Change to LIA (Legitimate Interests Assessment)

When the new GDPR regulations were introduced in 2018, St Joseph’s Hospice took the decision to move to an opt-in approach to marketing and communications in order to comply.

We always knew that we would need to review our approach – and that is exactly what we have done. While well intentioned, our move to opt-in has had a bigger impact than anticipated in reducing our ability to attract new supporters, raise vital funds, and engage with people.

From 1st July 2020, we moved to a legitimate Interest-based approach to marketing and communications, which is fully compliant with data protection regulations and is in line with the approach taken by many other charities.

St Joseph’s Hospice has always been transparent about our approach to opt-in and we are committed to sharing what we are doing with others. We understand that this is a significant change but we must take action to meet the challenges that St Joseph’s Hospice is facing today.
